Berks Veterinary Ultrasound was started in 2003 by Dr. Jason Tomes. Dr. Tomes grew up outside of Chicago and did his undergrad work at the University of Illinois. He continued his education at the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 1983. He then completed a one-year post-doc medicine, surgery, and teaching program at Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. In 1984, he moved to Berks County and worked in general practice until 2003. At that time, he started Berks Veterinary Ultrasound and limited his practice to mobile ultrasound work since.
Dr. Tomes has been actively involved with the International Veterinary Ultrasound Society since 2006. In addition to IVUSS, Dr. Tomes is a member of the Veterinary Ultrasound Society, American Veterinary Medical Association, Pennsylvania Veterinary Medical Association, and the Schuylkill Valley Veterinary Medical Association. Locally, Dr. Tomes has been on a number of TV programs and co-hosted a weekly radio show about pet health care.
